Best Places to Eat in Canggu

Only a few years ago, Canggu was once a rural community in Bali filled with rice fields but has grown quickly to accommodate all of the Westerners and digital nomads who moved there. This part of Bali is the most liveable, and where you will find loads of foreigners working online. The vibe here is very laid back, and filled with mostly millennials.

Here you will find one of the best food scenes we have ever experienced. Not only are the prices reasonable, but most of the food is locally source, organic, and very tasty. You will find everything from sushi prepared by former Nobu chefs, avocado toast, and some of the best vegan food.

Our favourite food spots are:

Crate Café- this café is the perfect spot for breakfast and lunch. All prices are 55 000 IDR across the board and they give hearty portions. This place is always full because of how good the food and vibe is- it is the essence of the community in Canggu. We absolutely love the veto (smash avocado on sourdough with feta, poached egg, and salmon), the barber (roasted banana French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon), the brekkie2go smoothie bowl and the hipstar. The dragon fruit infused water is delicious and so are the coffees.

Fat Mermaid- they have generous portions here and do breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We love the smash avocado for breakfast, and the tempe burger, seafood pasta, fish and chips, and Australian sirloin for lunch and dinner.

Ruko Cafe- An amazing breakfast and lunch spot with locally sourced ingredients and extremely reasonable prices. Smoothie bowls are 65k, while pancakes are 55k, and you can get lunch around the same prices. Taxes and gratuity is already included, which sweetens the deal. Our favourites are the charcoal galaxy bowl, fluffly vanilla hotcakes, poached eggs and mushroom toast, and the ruko breakfast.

Bokacika- a laid back outdoor restaurant that features a pool, beans bags, and a pingpong table. The food here is really delicious and they make incredible, hand crafted cocktails, all with locally sourced ingredients. We loved the tuna poke bowl and the jackfruit tacos.

Cinta Café- Another Canggu classic, this café looks over the rice fields and is great to work in. They have a great breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu.  Some of our favourite things to eat are the jackfruit burger and the seafood gnocchi.

Oma Jamu- this is a completely vegan warung- our favourite things to get are cream of mushroom, veggie frittata, chickpea curry, the tempe, and pumpkin. You point at what you want and they charge you by piece. It usually costs us 40 000 IDR ($3 USD) for a full meal.

Warung Bu Mi- traditional Indonesian warung, where you pick and chose from the buffet what you want to eat. A full plate costs 30 000  IDR.

Plant Cartel- vegan burger joint. Here you can get your typical fast food but with a twist- it’s all vegan! You can get your burger and loaded fries cravings here and its so good you won’t even notice you’re missing the meat! Our favourite is the Tokyo burger, double pleeseburger, popcorn chicken (it’s really jackfruit) and the chocolate shake.

Peloton Supershop- this is a vegan restaurant that brings a whole new concept to the term ‘vegan’. The food here is delicious and its hard to believe the meals you’re eating don’t have any meat or dairy. Its just that good! Our favourite things here are the lasagna, tricken burger, jackfruit tacos, and the powerhouse bowl. Finish your meal off with cashewtella cake and chocolate coffee with coconut whip cream.

Moana Fish Eatery- this is a Polynesian restaurant that specializes in seafood. We love the bora bora dish and the maui poke bowl.

Café Organic- this extremely Instagrammable café has delicious and healthy food. It is great for breakfast and lunch.

KYND/Give Café- this ‘chain’ is a not for profit vegan restaurant with 2 locations- one in Seminyak and one in Canggu. Here you will be able to get a smoothie bowl that says ‘bali’ on it.

Made’s Banana Flour Factory- first all-banana flour café. The carrot, chocolate, and banana cakes are to die for! After 4 pm they do a buy 2 get 1 free special (40 000 for all 3).

Two Fingers- delicious taco joint, they have a 15 000 per taco special on Mondays.

Ons Warung- A really simple restaurant that has amazing breakfast deals. For 35 000, you can get a huge chia pudding bowl, fresh juice and Bali coffee! You can get the same drink deal with an omelette for 28 000. Delicious, cheap, and filling!

Milk and Madu- on Tuesday and Sundays they have a 2 for 1 pizza deal which they offer on their gourmet pizzas (such as the pumpkin pie pizza). We would only recommend dining here for the pizza deal.
