Banana and Applesauce Dog Cake With Peanut Butter Frosting

The most important day of the year is obviously Dakota’s birthday! We decided to bake her a cake and it turns out that it is super easy to make. You will probably find all of the ingredients you need in your pantry.  Everything is dog friendly -who knew dogs can have sprinkles?! The cake itself is safe for humans to eat too, and while it will taste really bland for you, your fur baby will love it.

When we gave it to Dakota, she was super confused by us singing to her but definitely loved eating the cake. Since the portion was pretty big, we saved half to give her for the next day.  You can see in the photo’s how excited she was at being able to eat so much goodness!

BANANA AND APPLESAUCE DOG CAKE WITH PEANUT BUTTER FROSTING

Ingredients

Two Layer Cake

  • ¾ flour

  • 1 banana

  • ½ tsp of baking powder

  • ¼ cup of water

Home-Made Applesauce

  • 2 apples, peeled and cubed. Boil the cubed apples in a pan with ½ cup of water and then blend until it is mushy.

Frosting

  • ¾ cup of plain, non-fat yogurt

  • ½ cup of peanut butter. Make sure that the peanut butter is dog friendly and does not contain xylitol.

  • 1 tbsp of honey

  • Sprinkles and whipped cream for decoration. And candles (duh).

Instructions

Cake Batter

  1. Set the oven to 177 C, or 350 F.

  2. In a large bowl, mash the banana with the applesauce.

  3. Add the flour and baking soda, mixing until it is all combined.  Slowly add water to the mixture if it is too thick.

  4. Pour the batter evenly into two 6-inch pans, and place in the oven for 25-30 minutes.

  5. While waiting for the cakes to bake, start the frosting.

The Frosting

  1. In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, peanut butter, and honey.

  2. Whip together until everything is blended.

Put it all together!

  1. When the cakes are finished, take them out of the oven so they can cool.

  2. Once the cakes are room temperature, take the bottom layer and cover with frosting. Stack the second layer on top and be really generous with the frosting- your doggo will love you for it!

  3. Decorate the cake with sprinkles, whipped cream, and candles.

  4. Give your pup a hug and tell them that they are the goodest dog ever!
