Staying at The Intercontinental Le Moana, Bora Bora (Hotel Review)

As one of the only hotels on the mainland of Bora Bora, the Intercontinental Le Moana is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to explore the surrounding area. The rest of the luxury hotels are located on the atolls that surround the main island, so booking a room at Le Moana is ideal if you want to spend a few days doing activities and checking out the food scene on Bora Bora.

We spent two nights at this property, which has a beautiful view of Mount Otemanu and sits on a natural white sand beach. The hotel is designed in a Polynesia style, and has mostly overwater villas, along with a few beach bungalows. We stayed in an overwater villa that had a direct view of Mount Otemanu.

Our overwater villa had a sitting area, bedroom and bathroom, in addition to a balcony that had a table, loungers, and ocean access. The water level around the villa reached our shoulders, and we were able to comfortably step into the water. We spent most of our days lounging on the dock, and watching the extensive marine life around us. We spotted so many eagle and sting rays right from our lounge chairs!

All overwater villas have been recently renovated to include a glass coffee table that allows you to look directly below to the coral reefs. We loved sitting on the couch in the evenings looking down at all the fish attracted to the lights under the coffee table. The top of the coffee table could also be removed if you wanted to get a good photo without the reflection of the glass.

The Intercontinental Le Moana has a coral restoration program, and all throughout the property, you will find beautiful coral reefs planted in different shapes. Our favourite one was a giant starfish shaped garden you could see right off the boardwalk.

If swimming in the ocean isn’t your thing, the hotel boasts a large infinity pool overlooking the ocean on the mainland. There is a restaurant and cocktail bar nearby, in addition to a buffet restaurant that is open for breakfast.

INTERCONTINENTAL LE MOANA: LOCATION IN BORA BORA

We loved staying at Le Moana at the start of our trip as it gave us the opportunity to venture off the resort and explore the island.  Directly across the street from the resort is the world famous Matira Beach, a 5 km long public white sand beach. We went here every night to watch the sunset, and had dinner at the Bora Bora Beach Club (they have an incredible poisson cru and fish and chips).

The hotel is located in the village of Matira, which has plenty of restaurants in addition to a small grocery store where we bought our wine and snacks.  There are also atv and jet ski rentals available in the village, and plenty of drivers available for hire if you are looking to do a day trip.

If you are looking to do a day trip to Le Moana’s sister property, the Intercontinental Thalasso, the resorts offer a shuttle service between the two resorts, for $30 USD roundtrip.
