Paradise Redefined: A Luxurious Stay at Patina, Fari Islands Maldives

See this content in the original post

In the heart of the Maldives’ turquoise waters and lush landscapes lies Patina, Fari Islands—a sanctuary where luxury and nature converge to create an unforgettable experience. This exceptional resort isn’t just about stunning vistas and world-class service; it’s a meticulously curated escape that offers a truly extraordinary blend of culinary delights, cutting-edge design, and immersive art.

Although we’ve been to the Maldives 7 times, we were planning a trip with my (Claudia’s) parents and wanted to discover a new and unique resort. We decided to turn to Joy Maldives to ensure a seamless luxury experience tailored to our preferences in this stunning paradise. As specialists in Maldives travel, Joy Maldives curates bespoke itineraries that include exclusive accommodations, personalized activities, and insider tips for the best local experiences.

We’ve heard so many incredible reviews from friends who have stayed here, so when we were looking to take my parents on the trip of their lifetime to the Maldives, staying at Patina was the obvious choice.

Here’s a glimpse into what makes Patina a destination like no other in the Maldives.

WHAT ARE THE FARI ISLANDS?

If you’re confused about what the Fari Islands are, let us explain. This is an oasis of 3 man-made islands, with two hotels opened currently- The Ritz Carlton and Patina- with plans for Capella to be built. The unique feature is that you can dine around these establishments, and enjoy the amazing and unique culinary experiences each island offers.

The Fari Island concept is all about creating a sense of place and connection to the environment. The design ethos reflects a commitment to sustainability and a deep respect for the natural world, ensuring that every aspect of your stay is in harmony with the stunning Maldivian setting.

HOW DO YOU GET TO PATINA MALDIVES?

When you land at Male International Airport and clear customs, you’ll be greeted by a Patina employee holding a sign with your name on it. From there you will be whisked 20 meters to the boat dock, where you will board Patina’s luxurious speed boat. The Fari Islands are located a 45 minute ride away, and onboard you’ll be given light refreshments as you head to paradise.

HOW ARE THE ROOMS AT PATINA MALDIVES?

The room categories at Patina are divided between beach and overwater villas, and all feature their own private swimming pool, allowing you to take a refreshing dip in complete privacy. The design of these spacious villas is organic-chic, with the earthy tones matching the luxurious environment around it.

While the villa is open concept, there does feel like there is a clear distinction between the ‘bedroom area’ and the ‘living room area’, and you had ample space for both. When you enter the bathroom, the glass shower is definitely a feature statement, and the open concept style of the villa continues here, with only the toilet being behind a door. The closet is part of the bathroom, and if you stay in a beach villa, you also have an outdoor shower area.

Each beach villa has direct access to the beach, while the overwater villas allow access into the ocean via steps. The ocean villas have the same design as the beach, so it just depends on your personal preference. We personally love being able to walk into the water from the beach, but do miss all the marine life you see from an overwater villa.

HOW IS THE FOOD AT PATINA?

Patina, Fari Islands is a haven for food lovers, boasting a remarkable array of dining options that cater to every palate. The resort features 12 distinct restaurants, each offering a unique flavour experience.

Your mornings at Patina will start at Portico, where every guest has complimentary breakfast. Now this breakfast spread is one of the best we have ever experienced. The area is divided into three sections, with options ranging from Asian, Western, South Asian, Maldivian, Middle Eastern and more. The pastries were baked fresh and to die for- and they had a fresh juice bar where you can create your own juice!

Everyday we had lunch at Veli Bar, a restaurant connected to Portico that serves delicious bites both on the beach and poolside. We loved the salmon poke bowls, bulgogi yakitori, mini adana kebabs, and the Malaysian chicken satay.

One night, we were lucky to experience a dinner at KŌEN, an enigmatic, theatrical performance with chef’s cooking in front of you a fusion of Japanese and Nordic cuisine. The whole experience is 9 courses, all that were extremely spectacular. Our absolute favorite was the raw lobster, yuzu emulsion and hibiscus dish!

On our last night, we had dinner at Helios, a toes-in-the-sand concept which has a Turkish chef that serves Mediterranean cuisine. We couldn’t get enough of the lamb kofte, prawn skordalia, and pomegranate topped hummus.

At the Fari Marina Village, they had a selection of incredible food trucks, including an icecream truck that served complementary gelato and sorbet from 12-5 everyday.

While we weren’t long enough to experience all of the dining experiences, we definitely can’t wait to come back to try them all!

THINGS TO DO AT PATINA MALDIVES:

While the Maldives are famous for relaxation and beaches, there are tons of things to do around the resort. There is a plethora of water activities available, including diving and motorized sports. The gym is filled with top of the line equipment and they offer a premier tennis and paddleboard program.

They also offer conservation talks to teach guests on the ecological efforts that the resort is taking, as well as educate on marine wildlife.

One evening, we experienced a beautiful sunset cruise on a traditional Maldivian Dhoni, as we looked for dolphins and sipped champagne.

The Fari Beach Club is also a lively area, which regularly has dj’s play while guests enjoy an upbeat atmosphere.

HOW IS THE SPA AT PATINA MALDIVES?

Patina’s wellbeing philosophy carries over into their Spa, called Flow, which has a variety of private treatment rooms and outdoor spaces for a rejuvenating experience. Guests can indulge in a variety of therapies, from massages to facials, all designed to promote relaxation and well-being. They offer different guest immersion experiences, including sound healing, floatation rooms, acupuncture, and even a room dedicated to the practice of Watsu.  With a focus on natural ingredients and personalized service, Flow provides an unforgettable sanctuary for rejuvenation and tranquility in a stunning island setting.

THE PATINA MALDIVES ART COLLECTION

Another thing that sets Patina apart from other hotels in the Maldives is the art design around the hotel, which is a captivating fusion of contemporary and traditional influences, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere. Sculptures, installations, and artistic touches are thoughtfully placed throughout the resort, inviting guests to explore and appreciate the artistic expressions that complement the natural beauty of the island. They also feature seasonal artists so on every visit back you’ll see new art work.
