The Best Boho Bachelorette
I had the most prettiest, dreamiest bachelorette party over the weekend at my home in Canada. It was bohemian themed and was honestly everything that I wanted.
I originally wasn’t going to have a bachelorette, and after my friends threw me a lovely one in Bali, I was pretty set on not having one with my friends and family in Canada. I just didn’t want to deal with the stress of planning one, and since I am a total control freak, I knew I would have to dedicate a lot of time to the planning process. Despite all that, I was super happy that my sisters, Nicole and Michelle, and cousin, Magdalena, convinced me to have one anyways. And while I was involved in the planning of all of it, I really loved the whole creative process and can’t believe how beautifully everything turned out.
Although the only other bachelorette party I have ever been to was my own bachlorette my friend @agirlwhoblooms threw for me in Bali, I wasn’t too sure of what to expect. I did know that I didn’t want the traditional bachelorette night out- clubs and heavy drinking aren’t really my thing. I definitely did not want to go out anywhere or have any penis toys or related objects as a part of my night. I wanted a more relaxed night where I could just chill and catch up with my friends in Canada that I haven’t seen in over a year. I also wanted it to look as Pinterest-y as possible, and after a few weeks of driving around to every thrift shop in Toronto, I was sooo happy with the look. If you are wondering where I sourced all of my boho decor, click here.
The Venue:
My parent’s house is located an hour outside of Toronto, with a lot of nature and greenery surrounding it. Since Kaan and I are living here before we go back to Bali, I thought this would be the perfect and easiest location. The backyard was big enough that we were able to set up a teepee lounge area for 15 people to sit in and enjoy. Since the temperatures drop late night in August in Canada, we also had a bonfire setup so everyone could sit around it late at night and I left out a lot of cozy blankets to keep warm.
The Setup:
This took the longest to coordinate and organize. I kept saving beautiful photos of boho picnics to my Pinterest, but after a while I realised most of these photos were taken in Australia, where it’s much easier to get all of the decor and style that I wanted. Mostly everything that I wanted had to be ordered online and weeks in advance. Luckily, since we started to plan everything in June, all our decor arrived in time for the August 24th party. Since I figured I would be using some of this setup as a lounge/photo area at our wedding, I didn’t mind spending a little more to get exactly what I wanted. In this blog post, I mention exactly where I found all of my boho decor.
My vision was to have a dreamy setup with lots of fairy lights, macrame, lace, and vintage touches. I pictured having good food and drinks, with comfortable pillows and rugs for everyone to relax on.
The most complicated part was sourcing all of the pillows- once I had that part done I was able to move to the rugs. As soon as we came back to Canada, we went to many thrift stores and shopped online to get those boho persian rugs. I also found that adding random white blankets to fill the gaps between rugs helped so much and they were so much cheaper than buying extra rugs.
I knew I wanted a teepee covered in lace and at first I debated making one myself. But after a while I realized it would be difficult to find 7 ft branches and transport them. Also, I have no idea how to cut or sew lace, and realised it would be a lot harder to do the teepee myself. The teepee became a major part of my vision, and I was not willing to compromise. So after much googling, I found the perfect one on Amazon.
I wanted soft florals around the setup but wasn’t willing to spend too much on real flowers. I quickly realised you can get cheap pampass grass that looked great in vases, and got a bunch of baby’s breath and picked some greenery from the garden myself for the table setup.
The ‘tables’ themselves were 6 pallets stacked on top of each other, with an old white curtain strung along them. I had bought a bunch of rustic looking candle sticks which I spray painted gold, and used vintage looking medicine bottles as vases for my dried roses to complete the look.
The string lights that we strung overhead definitely added a lot to the ambiance, combined with the multiple fairy lights and candles we set up around the lounge. One of my favourite parts were the gold plates we used and the bamboo cutlery. We tried making the event as eco friendly as possible and the guests really noticed that.
Food & Drinks
We weren’t sure what would be the best boho theme menu, so we kind of added a bunch of food that I loved. We had an assortment of charcuterie and cheese boards, along with a middle eastern inspired dinner menu. Since it was a cooler day, we were able to leave all of the food outside and allow everyone to help themselves. We had everything from hummus dips, lentil curry, and butter chicken for a late night dinner. Everyone ate sitting on the pillows and used the pallets as tables. For dessert we had a delicious spread of fresh fruit, cupcakes, ice cream cake and strawberry cake. It was incredible and I couldn’t stop eating all night!
Since I didn’t want to go too crazy on the drinking, we served a bunch of light and fruity cocktails. We started off with a prosecco toast topped with raspberries and had Aperol spritz, sangria, and rose on the menu.
Games & Memories
I didn’t want to include most of the traditional bachelorette party games- ie, stick random body parts/penis’s on each other- so my cousin and sisters organized games that I found more thoughtful. We played “How well do you know the bride?” “Claudia vs Kaan”, and ‘toilet paper wedding dress’. These games were the perfect mixture between bachelorette and bridal shower game which ended up being amazing since I was not going to have a shower anyways.
The highlight of the night was definitely the ‘make your own flower crowns’. My sisters prepared the base of the crowns beforehand by wrapping twine around metal vine and glue-gunning boho lace to the end to use as a tie. With the bunches of baby breath we had, my sisters cut up the stems so that guests can easily add wire to hold the flowers in place. All the girls made one and we wore them for pretty much most of the night.
We captured the whole evening on polaroid cameras. All the girls had so much fun snapping away and pasting the photos into a guestbook which I will honestly keep forever since I am such a sucker for memories.
What I Wore
At first I wasn’t sure what would be the best thing to wear to a boho bachlorette party. I knew I wanted something lacy but wasn’t sure which style. I finally found this dress from Nightcap clothing and fell in love. The mermaid shape flowed perfectly whenever I walked and I received so many compliments.
Since the temperature at night dropped down to around 15 degrees Celsius, I paired the dress with my faux fur jacket from Grace Loves Lace.
Kaan (aka my future husband)
Kaan actually stayed for the beginning part of it before heading off to have dinner with a friend. This was actually perfect since he’s amazing with photos and was able to photograph everything before my friends came. While it wa unconventional to have the future husband at a bachelorette, I was really happy to have him around.
The Ultimate Boho Party
So there you have it- the ultimate boho bachelorette party! I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and can’t believe we were able to make my vision come to life. It was honestly everything I have seen on Pinterest and while I at first doubted we would be able to pull this off in Canada at a reasonable cost, it really did work out! It was one of the loveliest nights I had and my heart was so full that I was able to see all my friends and family. I am SO thankful that my sisters and cousin helped me pull this together and convinced me to have this special day. And I am beyond lucky to have such great friends and family who took the time to attend. With the wedding being less than 2 weeks away, all of the stress of planning is becoming very real so a night just to kick back and relax was the most amazing thing ever.
