Experience Thai Hospitality at the Dusit Thani Maldives Resort

Imagine spending your vacation on the paradise island of your dreams, surrounded by tall palm trees, powdery white sand, blue waters while staying at a 5-star resort. This was exactly how our experience was when we found a slice of paradise during our stay at one of the best hotels in the Maldives: Dusit Thani.

Dusit Thani is an incredible hotel chain founded in Thailand that prides itself on their gracious Thai hospitality. Right from the start we received a very warm welcome when we boarded the speedboat that picked us up from the airport. Upon reaching the island, every head of management, including the general manager, was there to greet us. We cannot stress enough how exceptional the service was from start to finish. From day one, the restaurant staff remembered how we liked our coffees and drinks.

An Extraordinary Paradise Island Escape

Dusit Thani is located on a private island and has been built with special care being taken to preserve the nature. The island features 99 rooms in total, which are evenly spaced out along the island, making you will feel as if you are the only guests there. There rooms range from beach front villas to overwater bungalows. We had the opportunity to stay in a luxurious beach front pool suite villa. We had direct access to the white sand beach, and in the mornings we would just walk right out and go for an early morning dip.  The villa is spacious, with a large outdoor bathroom that has a large splash pool in it and a bathtub located in the centre. The bedroom is tastefully decorated in a modern Thai style, with elegant high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with view of the beach.  

If you are looking to truly indulge yourself, there are a variety of overwater and ocean villas you can chose to stay in. All of them are situated on stilt platforms and have direct access into the ocean from the deck. The overwater villas have private showers out on the deck and are located just in front of the house reef, while the ocean bungalows each have their own private pools. There are two massive 2 bedroom villas that are both beachfront and overwater that are available if you are travelling with family or friends and want to share the same common areas.  

The best way to get around the island is by bicycle. It takes around 7 minutes to cycle around and the resort provides each guest with bicycles that are outfitted with front baskets to carry your beach bags. We loved how picturesque these bicycles were- they were perfect to take photos with!

Incredible Workout Facilities in the Tropics

If cycling is not enough of a workout for you- don’t worry! The gym facilities on the island are some of the more impressive that we have seen! Not only is there a fully equipped gym, there is also a specially designed outdoor running trial to get your cardio in.

The water sports centre also provides all of the equipment you would need- from paddle boards, seadoos, fly-boards, snorkel and scuba equipment. The resort is inside of The Maldives only UNESCO biosphere, meaning that the house reef is incredible. We had such an amazing time jumping off the docks with our snorkel equipment and exploring the beautiful underwater life. The reef is shallow and we felt like we were swimming inside of a colourful aquarium- complete with turtles, reef sharks, sting rays and eagle rays!

If you fancy a dip in one of the largest infinity pools in the Maldives, look no further! Perched on their powdery white sandbank is a massive pool overlooking the ocean, with its signature banyan tree right in the middle. The pool is tiled baby blue to reflect the ocean that looks like it extends right out to sea.

Spa Experience Like No Other

The Dusit Thani Chain is recognized for its world renowned Devarana Spa’s, which can be found exclusively in Dusit Thani hotels. There is a wide range of exquisite spa options to chose from, and we recommend spending a day pampering yourself- you deserve it!

The main feature of the spa are the treatment rooms, which are located in treehouses high among the coconut trees. This makes for an unforgettable island spa experience.

 Indulge in Amazing Culinary Experiences

If you are a foodie like us, you are in for a treat! Dusit Thani proudly boosts 3 gourmet restaurants on the island, each with its own unique culinary experience. Benjarong, is a Thai restaurant basing itself from the founding of Dusit Thani. It is a two-tiered building in traditional Thai style located over the water with stunning views of the ocean. The top floor serves as a cocktail bar and we found it to be the perfect place to grab a drink while watching the sun set.  What makes Dusit’s Thai restaurant unique is that majority of their staff, including cooks and servers, are from Thailand, providing an authentic Thai cultural experience. Every table in the restaurant is oceanside, so guests can enjoy the crashing of the waves with an unblocked view of the ocean. The food itself is incredible- as huge fans of Thai food and having been to Thailand six times, we found that Benjarong was really authentic!  

If you are in the mood for fresh seafood and meat, then the Sea Grill Restaurant is perfect. Located poolside, this restaurant offers a wide range of grill options for dinner as well as burgers and sandwiches for lunch.  

The Market is Dusit’s third restaurant is where you will be indulging in their breakfast buffest every morning. This is one of the more impressive breakfast spreads we have seen, with everything from pancakes to bagels to sashimi being served. Their chia pudding topped with fresh fruit compote was absolutely to die for, and their champagne breakfast really started our morning off on the right foot! (or buzz, haha). They also offer a lunch spread in addition to dinner, with the dinner theme changing every night. On one of those nights we had traditional Maldivian musicians perform for the dinner guests, which was a lovely way to end off the night. The incredible selection of food on the island kept us satisfied and full throughout our stay, and we did not finding ourselves missing the amazing food in Bali.

After waiting for so long to finally have the chance to visit this beautiful country, we could not have thought of a better resort to stay at.
