Six Senses Uluwatu, Bali Review: Stay in Sustainable Luxury

If you are looking for a relaxing and luxurious vacation experience in Bali, look no further than the Six Senses, Uluwatu. The Six Senses Brand is the pioneer of luxury eco-tourism, and their sustainability program has been around for decades longer than most hotel chains. Since we try to live as eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle as possible, we were super excited to finally experience a stay at the Six Senses and learn more about their environmental programs.

Now before you think that eco-friendly means that you will be staying in a bamboo hut without electricity and wifi, just remember that this is definitely not the case here. The 5-star Six Senses chain prides itself on innovative thinking that will allow their guests to experience eco-friendly luxury at its finest and raise awareness towards sustainable living.  You will still stay in comfortable rooms with king size beds and televisions, but instead of being given plastic toothbrushes and water bottles, you will have eco-friendly bamboo toothbrushes and water that is in a glass bottle. The AC will shut off when you leave your doors open for too long, but that dosen’t mean you will be left sweating in your room. Everywhere you turn and look, you will notice luxury amenities that have been adapted for sustainability but that will not affect your comfort level. Think eco-friendly, but make it luxe.

When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by a team which escorted us into a lobby solely dedicated to reception. We were treated to a refreshing glass of cold cucumber and ginger tea, and given some freshly baked cookies, nuts, and homemade granola as welcome snacks. After check in, we jumped on the golf cart driven by our private butler and were taken down the windy roads with incredible ocean views to our villa.

Our 1 bedroom pool villa featured all of the luxury amenities you could want- an outdoor and indoor shower, high-class skincare products, a king sized bed, and a private infinity pool overlooking the resort and the stunning blue Indian Ocean. There were great eco-friendly touches around the room and we were so happy to see that none of the products inside the room had plastic packaging.

The resort boosts 3 infinity pools with cliffside views available for all in-house guests, as well as 3 restaurants and 2 bars. As you know, we are huge foodies, and absolutely loved the food here. The cuisine ranges from Nikkei (a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian food), to Indonesian and Western. We honestly could not stop eating, and I swear that their breakfast buffet spread- and their sourdough bread- was one of the best we have ever had.

Six Senses pride themselves on their ‘Farm to Fork’ initiatives and source everything sustainably and focus on buying local ingredients. We were lucky enough to receive a tour of the herb and vegetable garden located on site. All herbs used in the drinks and dishes are grown in house, and believe us, there is nothing better than having fresh mint in your mojito. There is also a chicken coop and a goat pen, and the animals are fed the food leftover on guests plates. You can also pick your own eggs fresh from the cook and bring it to the chefs to cook your omelette in the morning!

There is also an alchemy bar, where you can create your own natural body scrubs, aloe vera facial gels, and beeswax wraps. Making the beeswax wraps was one of the coolest things we have ever done, and we still use ours to package our food to this day.

We could not get enough of our stay here, and definitely can’t wait to be back. It was such a romantic hotel with many things to do, and we felt like we were on a mini-honeymoon. This is the perfect resort for the environmentally conscious and those that are interested in learning more about sustainability without experiencing discomfort. By staying here, you are making a stand towards sustainability.
